Design of an ultrashort H‐plane coupler without transition structure for sheet beam traveling‐wave tube amplifier at W‐band

Abstract An ultrashort H‐plane sheet beam traveling‐wave tube (SB‐TWT) coupler without transition structure is proposed. The adopts a new idea of directly coupling the microwave from slow‐wave circuit (SWC) and optimizes matching by introducing an asymmetric circular ridge on E‐plane coupled waveguide. As result, length SB‐TWT reduced more than 3λ to 1λ. At same time, tunnel area enlarged twice that SWC tunnel. In working band (90–100 GHz) SWC, simulation results show reflection less −25 dB, isolation greater −22 dB. And influence dimensions locations performance studied. Particle‐in‐cell also can not only complete well but reduce number periods.
